In 2013, Food from the Heart started the “Clean Plate Campaign”, in conjunction with World Food Day on 16 October. According to statistics by the National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore generated 791 million kg worth of food in 2016. The amount can work up to an average of 368g per person, which is roughly two bowls of rice wasted every day.
The “Clean Plate Campaign” initiative hopes to educate students on the importance of reducing food wastage by inculcating the habit of mindful eating when they are young. From August to October, we take to primary schools all over Singapore to encourage students to “clean their plate”, rewarding with a token when they do. Since inception of the “Clean Plate Campaign”, we have grown from 5 schools in 2012 to 51 schools in 2017.
The Clean Plate Campaign is made possible thanks to the generous support of FairPrice Foundation.
